Online Shopping- 6 steps to apply for a fun and stress-free experience
Shopping can either be a daunting task with the plethora of options, or it can be a fun and enjoyable experience. I absolutely love shopping (specifically online). Not only because it is something I do as part of my personal styling services but because over the years, I have learned to navigate and narrow down strategically. Because let’s face it, there are countless options and stores to choose from. Having a plan is critical to successful shopping.
Apply these steps next time you are shopping for clothes, accessories, and/or shoes to make your online shopping experience fun and stress-free:
1. Have a plan- that might sound simple and a no-brainer but to have a successful and enjoyable shopping experience, you need to have a plan. Know what is in your current wardrobe and make a list of your shopping needs. Are you in search of a floral maxi dress? A plaid blazer? Black knee-high boots? Have your list ready when you start your shopping. Otherwise, you will end up going down a rabbit hole and purchasing hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars in items you didn’t need or end up never wearing. You can also go through your closet and ask yourself, “What am I missing that I need to add?” If you don’t know, see #2.
2. Prepare a capsule wardrobe-if you are unsure of what you are missing but you want to have a set of clothes to choose from and rotate, see my prior posts on how to put together a capsule wardrobe (I also put together a shoppable capsule wardrobe style board together and can find it here: https://gdpx.co/.../5f6d06f02741d45d1d.../storytellerstylist).
3. Know your measurements-selecting the correct size can be challenging if you have not shopped at a particular store prior. Have your measurements written down beside you to refer to and check the size chart for each item before selecting a size. If you are in-between sizes, read the reviews to see if the item runs a little large or small. When in doubt, order the larger size. You can always have it tailored if needed. Also, picture how it will look on you as opposed to the model in the photo.
4. Pull what you like in your cart and then narrow down from there-as you are searching, when you see something that is on your list and fits your style, add it to your shopping cart. Once you are finished searching, go to your cart and start narrowing down from there. This helps decrease the number of options and overwhelm.
5. The power of 5-think of 5 different things the new item can go with in your wardrobe (if this is outside of putting together a capsule wardrobe) so that you have a plan on how to style it before you even hit the purchase button!
6. What will be the most valuable item in your cart?-If you are struggling with narrowing down even further what is in your cart, think about what will be the most valuable item(s) to purchase? Meaning, what can you get the most wear out of and then go for it!
Adapt these steps next time you go shopping online and not only will you save time, but money and you will have fun doing it!
