All Sunscreen is Not Created Equal
Sunscreen. It’s vital for preventing premature aging, skin cancer, skin discoloration and sunburns.
When I was in high school, I remember going to prom as white as a ghost because I refused to go to the tanning bed and constantly would wear sunscreen. I didn’t mind though. I thought it made me different.
I feel it’s extremely important to wear sunscreen, even in the winter. I make my kids wear it and now they ask me to apply it before I even get a chance to get the bottle out of the cabinet.
️But not all sunscreens are created equal.
️Here is a breakdown on what to look for when purchasing sunscreen:
Make sure you look for one with UVA and UVB protection.
Choose at least 30 SPF or higher (I prefer at least 40 or 50).
Choose chemical-free sunscreen (look for zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide).
Look for water resistant (but know there is no such thing as waterproof sunscreen).
Reapply at a minimum every 2 hours. Very important!
Choose one you can incorporate into your makeup routine. EltaMD has some great tinted ones for face that I love to wear under my makeup. I use a spray on one from Dr. Dennis Gross that is a sheer mineral one for touch ups throughout the day. I also want to note that you should not wear chemical sunscreens for your protection but also to protect our coral reefs!
Wear additional protective gear, such as a sun hat, if you are going to be outdoors for extended periods of time.
I have been obsessed with wearing sunscreen for many years and feel it’s the most important part of my skincare routine and therefore, want to share! Shine on....
Have a great weekend,
Carrie
