Week 3 of Body Shape Identification and Figure Flattery- Triangle
This week we will be discussing the body shape known as the Triangle shape. For this body shape, the hips measure larger than the shoulders and waist. Your arms and shoulders appear proportionately slimmer. Weight gains first appear in your bottom, thighs and hips, followed by your tummy. You may have short legs and a long torso, or a balanced shape. Think Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Kim Kardashian.
Is this your body shape? If so, here are some tips on how to dress this body shape so that you can better balance out your hips and provide more harmonization with the upper body.
What the Triangle body shape should wear:
1. You want to highlight your upper body and downplay your lower body.
2. Add a ruffle top or detailed neckline. You are trying to draw attention to your arms and shoulders.
3. In the warmer months, sleeveless works great on this body type. Show off those great arms and shoulders!
4. Uneven shirt hemlines draw attention away from the hips.
5. Wear darker shades on the bottom and bright and/or prints on top.
6. Flowy bottom skirts help to hide full hips, also a fit and flare dress.
What the Triangle body shape Should NOT wear:
1. Avoid big prints on the bottom half and horizontal striped pants.
2. Too tight pants or jeans as this will only accentuate your hips.
3. Avoid cargo pants with big pockets.
4. Avoid short shorts.
5. Avoid too short dresses or dresses with tulle on the bottom half. It creates more bulk.
Remember, we want to create that imaginary hourglass shape with our clothes to balance out our body proportions in order to look and feel the best in them. This is part of the process in finding your authentic style.
Next week we will cover the body shape know as: Rectangle. Have a great upcoming weekend!
