Are You Making These 5 Fashion Mistakes?
Were you tempted to stop reading based on the title? Before you get upset with me for posting about mistakes we make when everyone is already trying to keep spirts up in this challenging time, I want you to look at this as a positive, not a negative.
Take a few minutes to take some big, deep breaths my friend. Breathe in, breathe out. There you go. Now, go to a place in our mind that is your favorite vacation spot or a place that brings you positive energy.
Now you are ready! And don’t take it too seriously. Everyone has made a fashion mistake at some point in their life. The message is to provide you with what the most common ones are so that you are aware and can adjust accordingly. To give you guidance and make you feel better about your personal style, not to pull you down. I Promise!
So, without further ado, here are the top 5 most common fashion mistakes:
1. You only focus on wearing what’s trendy now. I love to add in trendy pieces into my wardrobe. It’s fun and can elevate your personal style. However, if you only focus on trendy pieces and forget about knowing what your style personality is, you are setting yourself up for fashion failure. It will be difficult to pull off as the fashion trends are not the same as having a personal style. Focus on getting your personal style in check first, and then add in some appropriate trendy pieces that align.
2. Wearing clothes that are not the correct size. Sometimes, our weight fluctuates, and we end up wearing clothes that are too big or too small. Or, our pants or shirt length do not hang at the proper lengths. And when we wear clothes that do not fit properly, it makes you appear sloppy and unorganized. Use your measurements as a guide for what size to purchase in department stores and if lengths are too long, find a tailor who can do the hemming for you.
3. Over accessorizing. I am not someone who loves a ton of jewelry and it’s probably for this reason! Wearing 5-6 necklaces at a time with big, bold earrings, bracelets all the way up your wrists, rings on every finger, a scarf, and big tote all together is a fashion mistake. It’s just not a good look. Consider the situation and style your accessories accordingly. For example, if you are attending a wedding you are probably going to wear more jewelry than if you were going to spend the day at the pool. My rule of thumb is to start with a couple of accessories and then build from there as needed.
4. Only wearing neutral colors. Playing it safe when it comes to getting dressed will only leave your style looking drab. If you are only wearing neutrals, you are missing out on how to be the best dressed version of you! Consider adding in colors that you are comfortable with in small segments at a time until you get used to styling them. And then, add more. Focus on how it makes you feel.
5. You don’t dress for your body shape. This can be a tough one but because a lot of women simply do not know how to properly dress for their body shape. Just figuring out your actual body shape can be challenging! You may think you know but until you have been told by a trained professional stylist, you might not be getting this right. Be sure you know your measurements. I will be opening enrollment to my Body Shapes Workshop in September. Be sure to look out for an invite if this sounds like something you would be interested in!
Now, that wasn’t so bad! If you would like to be part of a private Facebook group community where I provide fashion tips, I would love for you to join my Style Insiders community.
Have a great weekend.
